In case you missed it...Ree Drummond's daughter is engaged!
When Alex's longtime boyfriend Mauricio Scott dropped down on one knee in early August, she was totally shocked.
"We had talked about a proposal and I knew it was probably going to come sometime in 2020," Alex says. "However, Mauricio really led me to believe that it wasn't going to be until around October or November, because he 'still had so much to do.'"
While Mauricio may have fudged the timeline a bit, Alex's
friend fiancé was totally honest about one thing: It took a lot of planning to execute the perfect proposal.
According to Mauricio, the trickiest part was coordinating everything and finding a neat place to do it—especially during a pandemic. He knew he wanted to propose in a beautiful outdoor setting in Dallas, and after a bit of research he finally landed on the Nasher Sculpture Center. (Did you see that garden? Gorgeous!) Mauricio also knew that Alex wanted "her people" to be there to celebrate, so he got the whole Drummond family involved.
"It was funny afterwards hearing about what everyone knew and when they knew it!" Alex says. "Mauricio kind of told my family all at different times."
He and Alex's sister Paige were in constant communication about "all proposal-related things," so she was the first to know. Ladd found out next—when Mauricio asked for permission to marry his daughter! To Alex's "absolute shock," he popped the question to Ladd when they were stuck in Pawhuska during quarantine.
"Mauricio tricked me that he was going on a run, but he actually went to my dad's office to ask him for my hand in marriage," Alex reveals. "It meant a lot to me that he went out of his way to do that."
Soon after Ladd gave Mauricio his blessing, he told Ree the news. All of these conversations took place in April—so everyone had to keep the secret for almost four months!
"The funniest part to me is that my brothers didn't know it was happening until they were in the car on the way to Dallas on the morning of the proposal," Alex says. "My parents and Mauricio knew they couldn't keep a secret, so they were the last to know."
All in all, Alex thinks that Mauricio totally "knocked it out of the park." Congrats to those two pookie heads!
